The rating comes from the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) and combines three things: how significant the stop is (railway station, tram or bus only), how often services run and how far the walk is. In everyday terms, class A means frequent services — you barely need a timetable; class D means services are rare. A nearby stop alone doesn't earn a top class — if the bus runs rarely and there's neither commuter rail nor tram, the rating stays mid despite the short walk. National standard, updated yearly.
