Check the address: the Dossier shows your door-to-door commute time to work.

The report is free. The Dossier shows what the address costs you compared with today, calculated for your household, plus the questions to clarify at the viewing and what we don’t know: a one-off payment of CHF 79. See an example Dossier

How to read these figures

  • Bike and e-bike: riding time calculated by Ubivo on the cycle paths and roads of OpenStreetMap (OSRM route planner, bicycle profile), between inhabited points of the home municipality and of the workplace municipality (one to five depending on size, weighted by population; the median is shown). Base speed 17 km/h by bike, 20 km/h by e-bike (assisted up to 25 km/h), plus 5 minutes by bike and 2.5 minutes by e-bike for every 100 metres of climbing; downhill 2 or 1 minute less per 100 metres, but never faster than 25 km/h. This is an assumption by Ubivo for adults who commute regularly, not an official value. The slower direction counts; where the two differ clearly, both are shown. «Borderline» means: with a slightly faster or slower assumption (bike 16 to 18 km/h and 4 to 6 minutes per 100 metres, e-bike 19 to 21 km/h and 2 to 3 minutes) the municipality is once within and once outside the time.
  • Limits: the times apply between typical residential locations, not from your door. Traffic lights and junctions are only covered by the base speed; weather, luggage and fitness not at all. Where OpenStreetMap has gaps, paths are missing or mapped wrongly. Ferries and taking the bike on the train are excluded.
  • Total annual cost: income tax, health insurance premiums (deductible 300) and electricity (4,500 kWh) for the chosen household, without commuting costs. Differences rounded to CHF 100.
  • Rents and property prices are not included; there is no data per municipality.
  • Do you pay tax at source, for example on a B permit? Then differences between municipalities in a canton only matter to you under a subsequent ordinary assessment.

The deduction from your salary is the same in every municipality of a canton. From a gross salary of CHF 120,000 a year you are assessed under the ordinary procedure automatically, below that on application by 31 March of the following year; your municipality’s tax rate then applies.
